...forget about bungee cord. Bungee is a poor substitute for deck lines. IMO, traditional Greenland rigging with cords and sliding tensioners is far more functional and allows you to set up paddle outriggers fore and/or aft when necessary. As a rule, the only place I use bungee is for the bow and stern paddle loops on my 'glass and wood boats, and one line across the foredeck for convenience.
Your boat should also have perimeter lines on the fore and aft decks. These are absolutely vital in rescue situations and quite handy in general. Perimeter lines must be cord; bungee will not work. I raise the lines on my boats using 3/4" wooden beads from the local craft store. This make them much easier to grab with wet or gloved hands.
