: Great pictures! Thank you. When you drill through the gunwales and thread the
: cord through,do you tack the cord to the deck stringers inside the boat? I
: can't figure that out from what I see. I am concerned about getting
: tangled up in case of a spill. How about either using screws and grommets
: on the gunwales and maybe bolts in the stringers?
The cords are simply knotted on the inside of the gunwales - no hardware or other gyrations involved.
: Also, what kind of foam are using on the deck?
It's all Minicel foam.
: I am going to use about 4
: inches of board foam on the back-rest to push me forward - I miscalculated
: the distance to the foot brace -- if that screws up the trim, I will add 4
: inches to the foot brace, but then my thights won't hit the thigh brace
: correctly. Did you ever face this problem? Any solutions?
I haven't had any significant problems in that area. If your back rest is properly located, pad the foot rest. Shifting that far forward is bound to create handling problems. A while back, someone posted a simple solution. It consisted of a "sadwich" of a new foot rest beam with plywood on the top and bottom that would slip over the existing foot rest beam.
: I was going to use closed cell mounted on some scrap marine plywood I have
: sitting around that actually fits well.
That should work.
: What kind of foam have used in the
: past?
All I've ever used for outfitting is Minicel. Most other foams are either too hard, too soft, too brittle or too porous. The only exception is the forward hull pads in the SOF, which are a material similar to Ensolite. They're not structural and don't need to be glued, so the material works fine. I've tried gluing it the results weren't encouraging.
