In Response To: Strip: Epoxy matchup? (Brian Ervin)

: I have filled the staple, nail, and misc flying debri (oops) holes in the
: boat. The areas around the holes are now darker in color, due to the
: epoxy, than the rest of the wood. Is this a problem? I know it would be
: were I staining a piece, and I would have to match or sand. Should I sand
: it all down to the same color as the bare wood, or will the epoxy blend in
: once the whole boat is covered?

: I have stopped, analyzed, fretted, procrastinated, and then completed
: practically every step to this point. I find myself at that point again,
: despite the fact that each time I have moved on from here I ended up
: syaing, "that wasn't too bad." This board continues to be a
: great resource. So I figured that I would post this concern/question.

ON MY FIRST BOAT, I TOO, NOTICED THAT THE AREA AROUND THE FILLED HOLES WERE DARKER THAN THE REST OF THE BOAT. NOW WHAT I DO IS FILL THE HOLES THEN IMMEDIATELY DO A FILL COAT ON THE ENTIRE BOAT WITH EPOXY. THE FILLED SECTONS ARE NOW THE SAME COLOR AS THE REST OF THE BOAT.
TOO LATE FOR THIS BOAT - BUT ON YOUR NEXT ONE, TRY THIS IT WORKS.

GOOD LUCK - STEVE
