: Therein lies the problem. Unless the boat is quite wide, the lines will
: constantly get in the way when attaching a spray skirt. On the boats
: above, one of the first things I did was to get rid of the rigging beside
: the cockpit.

Yup. When I put the temporary rigging on the Cormorant, I left these lines running past the cockpit so I could leave the perimeter line long, in case I needed a little more length in the final installation (just being cheap and prudent). They really get in the way of sprayskirt installation.

When I took the running decklines off the Guillemot and installed perimeter lines through Maroske fittings, I left the lines running past the cockpit. Due to the high arch and absence of shear on the Guillemot, these lines sit lower on the boat, and aren't in the way.

All 'pends on the shape of the boat and the placement of the fittings. Doesn't look like John's are in the way.

: One thing that I've seen that does seem useful is built-in, recessed hand
: rails beside/behind the cockpit. Very few boats have these and AFAIK, none
: of them are built - or even available - in the US. It could be done on a
: wood boat, but I haven't seen it.

Been reading some Tasmanian websites have we? :D
