If the shot was ten years old my guess is that Tom shot it on an Extachrome or Kodacolor emulsion. Tom lives in Colorado so the saturation of colors is fairly typical for altitude (less atmospheric scatter) Also, it looks like he was using a fairly wide angle lens. The corners of the frame yield a more condensed representation of color due to characteristics of light being bent more severely at the edges of the frame. Lastly, the frame looks to be just a touch, perhaps half a stop, underexposed.

And all that supposing just might be true if Tom hasn't had a whack at the image in Photoshop. Computer adjustment of photography is just develish in this day and age.

And that boat....well, Tom isn't known as the meticulous shop master for nothing.
