: Hi Sage,

: I think the family will find that it is less expensive and easier to build
: SOF boats than any other type. Greg Stammer would be the first to point
: out (Unless Harvey or Nick beat him to it) that the Morris Measurements
: are not really linear. I think that length needs to be increased as well
: as width or the boat will sit too low in the water for an inexperienced
: paddler.

How much longer? It looks like 17' 6" to start with, and for wider just at a quick glance (its been a year since the last time I read the book) it looks like 2 fists. Are you suggesting maybe 2.5 or 3 fists?

: At the width that will likely be necessary, rolling the thing may be a
: difficult task, so erring toward stable instead of ease of rolling might
: be a good choice. (Wider than narrower)

Not even worrying about rolling for now. Last weekend was there first time on the water.

: And with novice paddlers, insisting on (internal) floatation bags is high
: priority. Just my $0.02

We have already discussed internal floatation. As of today he is going to build the 2 full sized yaks first. He is mainly concerned about weather he will be able to do multi-day trips. I have started discussing float/dry bag types. We will defiantly be bringing up this subject later. For now it will just be reading until his tax returns get back (he filed today). Thanks

Sage
