My first preference was for white oak or ash, neither of which was available clear and straight grained when I looked. I found a nice quarter sawn red oak 2/4" and went with it. It steamed and bent well. The red oak ribs are already installed. So, I am going to go with it. The next boat will get different rib material. I should start looking soon. Searching for good wood was, for me, the least fun so far in the building process since I really hate shopping.
