I always follow the directions, right up to the time they leave something out! The Mylar will work IF you take a pair of sissors and cut the sewn edge off. If you leave the edge on it creates a bump that partially lifts the mylar up. A VERY smooth and heavy weight is also required to apply even pressure. Talc between the weight and the mylar also helps to even out the pressure..

If you don't like the results so far just sand it off and try again.
