: Kevin, I would really like to hear from someone who has been able to have
: 100% success with laying mylar over glass and butt joints and what they
: did to be consistant. I've only done it a couple times and it hasn't
: worked well for me. Maybe the table and weight above the joint have to be
: PERFECTLY flat, maybe there's a way of laying the mylar down,,or the side
: on the bottom,,,or something but it sure isn't as consistant and quick as
: a butt block given all the sanding one has to do for the screwed up
: joints.

I'm happy with the results I got butt joining the panels for the Cormorant I am building. I cut strips from 2.3oz fiberglass from Raka. The cloth is fine enough that it required minimal sanding (none on inside). I taped a piece of clear plastic sheeting to my bench, wet out a strip of cloth on it, added a coat of epoxy to the interior side of the panel and positioned the panel over the wet out strip. Then, I wet out a fiberglass strip over the exterior butt joint, placed plastic over this joint and repeated the process for the other panel. I placed a heavy tool box over the joint.
