Construction method hasn't made any difference for me. I still get stuck, cut, scraped and bruised on every boat (I've also added plenty of the other essentials, sweat and tears to each boat :-). I'm currently sporting several cuts and scrapes from my close encounters with utility knives and planes while working on Beth's Silver :-) S&G with wires can be hazardous. Some have tried plastic ties or softer wire. In some cases I made the wires long enough to bend the tips over, but that is a pain for every wire. Your best bet is just to be tolerant and as careful as possible. Be happy you drew blood while working with a small wire and not while working with the table saw! :)
