I have a Schade rest in Project X. I find it to be the most comfortable foot rest I've found. Unlike other adjustable footrests, the Schade type supports the whole foot which I find appealing for my size 15s :-) Adjusting the rest is another matter. It would seem to be easy, but in practice, I've found it really hard to get the proper leverage to tighten up the rest when I am in the boat. Others have had similar experiences. Some people have had the rests break during extreme maneuvers (rolling), but that has a lot to do with your construction quality and materials. I believe someone (Pete Rudie?) has converted the tracks to aluminum with good results. As for me, I've opted for the best of both Schade and bulkhead by cutting foam blocks to angles similar to the Schade rest. These are the same shape as my bulkhead and fit tight against it. For shorter people than I, flat blocks of foam can be fitted between the bulkhead and footrest. I noticed at R2K2 that Joe Greenley was also using a similar method in his boats. It works well for him and he has a lot of people try his boats.
