Hi Bob,
I've got one in mind for my kayak as well. Somewhere in the past if saw or read, I think it may have been on Rick Alnutt's Flyfisher site, about a rod holder made of ABS pipe. The idea that I have been mulling over in my mind is 2" ABS about 8" - 10" long with a slit cut along the length wide enough to accomadate the handle of the rod, then a slot cut across the ABS to accomadate the mounting foot on the reel. The rod could then be placed in the ABS tube with the reel in an upwards position, then leaned over on it's side so the reel fits into the slot to prevent any movement. I plan on mounting the ABS contraption on a piece of sealed and glassed 4mm ply that matches the shape of my deck. With any luck I can place the base under my front bungees and troll away. I'm talking strictly fresh water here and don't plan on trolling in saltwater with yellow coloured seal silhouette's ala Mike.
My apologies for the somewhat muddled description, hope you can make sense of it!
Tight lines!
Ken
