I've used a backrest or coaming as the only support for my back,
regardless of the seat type. The soft Feathercraft seat provides little support.

Based on your original post, I wasn't aware your kayak was a woodstrip,
assuming instead a traditional SOF.

Since I've never installed a sling seat in a woodstrip, your guess would be as
good as mine regarding setup. With the rigid floor of your woodstrip, you have
many other possible seat options.

I've found closed cell foam , laminated or carved, to be a good option for this
type kayak. The LINK below provides instructions for either type foam seat.
