Hey ya

Way ahead of you, the glass went down first, rolled down, and painted. The epoxy top coat flaked off, a disconnect from the plywood. A lot of epoxy was used, too, excess float was spatulaed off, leaving a wet coat. I hear what you're syaing, it ACTS like starvation. The same with open 6 oz tape and glass layers, too...it's this disconnect, and I'm going beyong careful, too. This just never happened before.

: I think that maybe you have a form of epoxy starvation excerbated by such
: light glass. really light glass will "float" off the top of the
: epoxy, and given that you did not use a saturation coat, the combination

I hear what you're saying but I did put epoxy over, too. And I also roll layers down before adding epoxy and squeeging it around to make a nice coverage. I used some RAKA a bit ago and it's sitting there doing it's thing.

: means that the epoxy is "glued" to the surface of the plywood,
: but not "encapsulated" by the epoxy. Quick fix is to paint one
: or two more layers of epoxy onto the top of the glass.
: Then I would retest.

: I had a simmilar issue this fall with the light tape that Pygmy uses to
: create their butt joints. After talkign to some glassing
: "experts" they recommend me to do this.

: I've been told that this condition is just as strong in tension, and
: compressiong, but the act of peeling, where all of the force is placed on
: a small-unbraced area is paticurlarly suceptable.

the discnnect is a simple rub with the finger on the edge, the glass imeediately whitens, and a easy tug zippers it right off. Now that's so much like starvation that it's the definition excpet...when you look at the other side about to be peeled and it's glossy like I wanted.

I just used the RAKA and seeing what happens...which I'll post. I did a couple test stips and layers, and in an hour will try a test of second layer on top of the the first. I'll report the test results plus the regular job, too.
