the others advice abt the joint is right on.

however i would make your sandwich after tacking or clamping those first 2 strips on (1 on ea side) and then take the break carefully munching and looking to see if the curve(s) formed are symmetrical and/or if they are acceptable to you espec espec the last foot or 2 near the bow and stern and the middle few ft where often close to straight(easy to get a little wavy here).

half an hr taken here doing this is probably the most important of all.
