fwiw
after applying the magnets to the hatch lid, i decided against them. to remove them i used a soldering iron(pencil) to burn thru the overlying glass and to head the magnet so that the epoxy would release. it worked well. the magnets appear to have lost about half their strength (rough estimate, no measurements) based on how hard it is to separate two magnets compared to ones that have not been thru the "heat treatment". just in case it may be useful to someone.
