: I finally got around to glassing the hull of my Guillemot yesterday. It
: turned out to be very frustrating. On the first coat fibres kept pulling
: out of the second layer of glass. I laid it out like in Nick's book (two
: layers, smaller on larger), wet both out at once, and had to keep fighting
: the fibers coming loose. The more removing fibers and smoothing where they
: were, the more fibers came loose. End result, epoxied fibers extending
: down the side of the boat. Very noticable. There also seemed to be a
: section of the glass that had lines that did not dissapear when wet out,
: obviously an imperfection in the glass.
: Questions: 1. Can the fibers be sanded out without damaging the glass under
: the fibres and/or ruining how it looks?
I used a paint scraper to smooth out the strings, cloth edges and drips. Then put on a fill coat to keep me from sanding into the cloth. Scraped it sanded it and all was well.
: 2. How can I be sure this will not happen on the deck?
I used 4oz cloth on the deck and it had fewer strings. used my scraper just like the hull.
Have fun
Hope this helps,
Lennie
: Thanks,
: Brian
