I think I will go for it. I should not have said I have zero fiberglassing knowledge as I recently finished building my first stripper, Nicks Guillemot Expedition Single. (At one time I also repaired the floor of my '74 Landcruiser with chicken wire and fibreglass.)
I was more concerned about the integrity of old fibreglass. There are some spots that will need to be patched but I think it will work out fine.

Thank you for all the advice and encouragement.

I'll post before and after pictures when it's done.
