: How do I store my open can of varnish so that it doesn't skin over overnight?
: So far, I haven't had any luck with any of the air tight containers I've
: tried.
: Thanks!

Hi Ken, this is my method, there may be others. I "displace" the air in the can using a can of compressed air (Dust Off). I place the lid loosely on the varnish can, then insert the plastic tube attached to the air can, then turn the air can bottom up and spray for about 2 seconds into the varnish can. Then I quickly pull back the air can and WHAM I hit the varnish can lid shut. After this, I turn the varnish can upside down and put a block of wood under one edge so the can is resting at an angle (this prevents the formation of hard drips on the can bottom). There is an ingredient in those air cans that creates a vacuum in the can of varnish.
When I tested this method, I left the varnish can on the shelf for five months without opening it. When opened, the varnish was as fresh as new and it has since been used with no adverse effects from the air can ingredients.
Try it, it works!
