The inner tube sections do the same thing, the clips never actually touch the wood. But if you already have the rubber bands, then go for it. I stripped my hull with the bead side up, and had no damage to any strips from this clamping method.

Well, good point. I tried to squeeze out most of the excess glue before clamping, but there was always a bit more. Most of the glue grunge I had to deal with was from under the inner tube bands. I cleaned some of it up after taking clamps off, but before glue was rock-hard, but I wasn't particularly meticulous about it, and I paid for it later (just more work, no problems).
