I'm assuming the 72 hrs relates to the time starting from when the hardener/resin are mixed but it's TEMPERATURE related. If you can move that glass around but it's soft to your fingernail then it's ok. And if you forgot about it for a week and came back to it it's not a problem to wash it down then glass it after a quick sanding.
