Hi Rick

Big step in family bonding. Most teens go in the opposite direction.
Good idea, taking pictures of the work, in progress, that she can stick in a scrap book or album.

I would have to agree with others that a hybrid is the way to go for speed of construction and the options you have mentioned. She probably wants to design something for the deck, but what's under the water isn't important, so the stitched hull is probably a good way to go. Easy to get together and will get her noticing "HER" work and first glimpses of the boat shape, which we all know is a real eye opener and encourager. Then she could work on the design of the deck and help personalize it for herself. That will be what she shows off at the put-in or parking lots.

If I may suggest, the Merganser ( by Eric Shade at Shearwater Boats ) is a very nice design it comes in several sizes as well.
