: After hearing many unfavorable reviews of canvas I am considering ballistic
: nylon. Does anyone know of a source in Canada? Cost? Shipping? Thanks.

Try these:

Blurb from the Norseman website:

A privately-owned company, Norseman designs and manufactures protective fabric products for customers in a variety of industries. Our fabric solutions are used to protect people, equipment and products from wind, dust, snow, moisture, silt, sun and temperature extremes.

Norseman started in 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta as North West Tent & Awning Inc. manufacturing tents, tarps and awnings. Today, Edmonton is home to Norseman's main manufacturing facility and head office. We have branch locations in Calgary, AB and Vancouver, BC with sales representatives in Ottawa, ON and Phoenix, AZ. Norseman's custom products are retailed directly to customers, while our standard products are sold primarily through dealer networks.

Raymond Brothers supplies industrial fabrics, whih is what you are looking for:

1510 Fanshawe Park Rd. W., London, ONT. N6H 5L8
Tel: 519-473-4334 Fax: 519-473-9591 1-800-265-9064
http://raymondbrothers.ca/free_photo.htm

The above link is to their "Free photo Offer" for home awnings. You send them a picture of your house and they manipulate the image to show youwhat it would look like with their awnings on it. Then, you can hae them make awnings to match theri picture. Hmm. I'm wondering what they would do if you sent them a photo of your kayak frame and told them you wanted it covered with a polyester or nylon fabric -- waterproof, of course. They might get offended, or they might get a chuckle out of it and send you a picture of what your kayak should look like when skinned. they have a long list of items they make, but they don;t ist kayak skins. Somehow I think they might be interested in adding that to their accomplishments.

their home page is: http://raymondbrothers.ca/about_us.htm

This is an importer who brings industrial, commerial and garment fabrics into Canada and resells them in Canadian dollars to the Canadian market. I didn't see any nylon or plyester on the website, but you might call to see if there are more current offerings.

while searching for Canadian suppliers I got a lot of hits for the IFAI -- Industrial Fabrics Association International.

you might try contacting them for a canadian manufacturer or distributor of high strength (and maybe even waterproof-coated) nylon or polyester fabrics.
