Why Wood?
I'm currently working on a method to make hollow oval shaped shafts of carbon fiber/ fiberglass/ epoxy laminate. It will make an extremely stiff, lightweight paddle shaft. Once I've figured it out I'll post pics if anyone is interested.

: I've searched for Sitka Spruce in S.E. Virginia - my home area (Nick's book
: suggests it for paddle shafts)- and have come up empty handed. I have good
: access to Cypress. Has anyone used that with success for paddle shafts?
: How about other wood choices.
