In Response To: Material: Wood for Paddle Shafts (Rick Sylvia)

: I've searched for Sitka Spruce in S.E. Virginia - my home area (Nick's book
: suggests it for paddle shafts)- and have come up empty handed. I have good
: access to Cypress. Has anyone used that with success for paddle shafts?
: How about other wood choices.

: Rick
I had some Cypress left over from some deck rails and put it in my stripper bottom, wish I had more. I would think it would be heavier than true Sitka but
very close to the White Spruce I bought for a SOF. There was a site posted earlier with the properties of wood to check on the strengh.
