I am also interested in building the Morris baidarka, or something similar. I combed the baidarka list archives and could find no discussion of anyone building this specific boat.
If you go with the Morris design, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the location of the masik. There were some comments (on the baidarka list) that the cockpit on the MAE-593-76 (from which Morris' design draws heavily) is placed too close to the stern. FWIW, the link below touches on the discussion.
Keep us posted on your decision. It is, beyond any doubt, an extremely cool boat.
Best Regards,
Matthew
: looks like a rocket at 19'1"x17". Has anyone built this and paddle
: it? What do you think? Seems like an extraordinary tight fit for anyone
: average size or bigger.
: Anyway, I have enough wood (and soon enough skin) for most of another boat
: and am considering this as the next project.
