: In Morris' book, he describes sewing the skin down the center of the deck,
: one seam per boat, using one large piece of fabric.

: Cunningham describes stretching the fabric over the boat and stapeling to the
: sheer, one piece for the hull and one for the deck. then sewing them
: together at the shear, removing the staples as you go.

: any thoughts, advice or suggestions

Jeff,

A couple thoughts.... I'll take a one piece skin over a 2 piece anytime.
You can always glue a narrow flap over the deck seam if your sewing is
less than perfect. ( See Pic)

My folders now use a 2-piece PVC skin( connected at sheer) as PVC is simply
too stiff too make into a one-piece.

If you use Nylon, and to a lesser extent Polyester, the one piece skin can
be easily shrunk to a smooth tight fit. I assume you will be building a
Greenland style kayak, which is much easier than sewing an Aleut skin.

Are Morris and Cunningham using the same type cloth ? That could account for
the different skinning technique.

The LINK below shows a one piece Aleut 8 oz. nylon skin. The comments below
the pic are those of the site owner, and not my own.
