Slowly making progress on a Morris-inspired recovery/retrieval kayak.
I made way too many ribs to get to this point. I found that white oak is much easier to steam-bend than ash. The oak tends to bend evenly while ash is more likely to have straight sections and then sharper bends. I broke alot of ash making ribs and finally went to Edensaw and got some white oak. The oak might be more expensive per board foot, but I think it is cheaper per finished rib. The gunwales and keelson is doug-fir while the chine stringers are pine. I got my ballistic nylon from Dyson last week so with luck this one will be all finished by the end of March.
I have all the materials for the next one, a more tradtional Greenland-style boat. I am using this boat to practice on. My skills should be better for the next one.
