Mike and all,

Thanks for the advice. I will search out the 10 oz poly. Is Dyson the only qualified supplier? I live near Boston so my guess is that there is someone closer to me who has this stuff. What else do they use it for?

Is brand new #10 15 oz canvas really that bad? I don't mind doing upkeep, but I don't want to accidently put my foot through it either. I like the fact that I don't need heat or any special tools to get it to work.

I am planning on small pond, lake and maybe tidal pool / salt flat type of kayaking. I will not be going out into the open ocean, not even "near" shore.
