: Mike and all,

: Thanks for the advice. I will search out the 10 oz poly. Is Dyson the only
: qualified supplier? I live near Boston so my guess is that there is
: someone closer to me who has this stuff. What else do they use it for?

: Is brand new #10 15 oz canvas really that bad? I don't mind doing upkeep, but
: I don't want to accidently put my foot through it either. I like the fact
: that I don't need heat or any special tools to get it to work.

: I am planning on small pond, lake and maybe tidal pool / salt flat type of
: kayaking. I will not be going out into the open ocean, not even
: "near" shore.

: Tom

I live in Boston as well. I'm just about finished skinning (just need to stitch the coaming) with the 10 oz poly duck that Mike is talking about. It's good stuff -- tight weave; doesn't unravel when cut by sissors and definitely won't unravel using a solder iron. I make some mistakes in cuts and had to stitch maybe 1/8" (thin) overlap in some portions of the seam. I pulled tight and the weave held well. The thing is that you have to use the "hammock" skinning method because there's not much stretch to this material.

Anyway, the material is ordered from Tacoma Tent and Awning -- Dave Eagling - 1-800-481-4128. My material came in a week after I called and was shipped UPS ground. You can have them ship priority if you don't mind the higher rate. The material was something like $9.38/yard (not including tax).
