: I was looking at some number 1 select grade studs at Home Depot, the sign said
: they were spruce. Some of them were nice and straight and fairly knot free
: but seemed heavy and wet.I'm afraid they would tie themselves in knots in
: a couple of weeks.I'd have a feathered GP whether I like it or not.
: The sitka spruce at Exotic Woods store is $14 cdn a board foot but was nice
: and dry.Mmmmm it's tough to be poor.
: Cheers.

In So Cal most exposed 2x8 fascia boards(thats the roof edge trim) is done with some kind of dried constuction grade spruce. It is better than studs and some of it is light, straight and fine grained. I made some SOF longitudinals out of it.Paid about $18.00 for a 2x10 by 12'. The grain was about 30 rings to the inch and straight. It is not totally clear but you could laminate some blanks.
