In Response To: Skin-on-Frame: Howcum question from utter neophyte (Don Stahl)
: I've never built a boat (am contemplating it in a cold-feet sort of way) but
: I am curious--has anyone made a skin-on-frame kayak and then fiberglassed
: it instead of painting it? I assume that once the primary skin was glassed
: one could add more layers of cloth and resin until the boat was as stout
: as one wanted. Of course it would be rigid instead of 'live' but wouldn't
: it also be quite maintenance-free?
: Just an idle question from a newbie...
Hey Don,
Look for a copy of Baidarka, by George Dyson. He did lots of SOF boats with glass skins.
