I can't think of any good reason to use a power plane on a kayak. The amount of wood that you remove during fairing is small and the wood is soft. There is not any physical effort involved; it is much more of an eyeballing process. I would think that a power plane would make it too easy to take off too much, which is much worse than not taking off enough and having to make a second pass.
