: Sure. Got plenty of scrap pieces and one pieces that's about 16"x18.5'.
: Guess if I run into something that rips the SOF down the length, I'll have
: a major repair piece ready.
Coat those big scraps with your waterproofing materials (whatever you are using) at the same time that you do the coating on the boat. Lay them over a clothesline to dry. Then when you need to patch your boat you'll have your patching materials already prepared, and you'll just need to glue on the patch. Rubber cement or a contact cement make for fast patching adhesives. These can be applied to one side of the patch and to the boat. The solvents evaporate fairly quickly, and then you slap the patch on, burnish it a bit to assure adhesion, and relaunch the boat.
When you get back to your shop you can sew around the eges of this patch to strengthen things, and then put on a coat or two of your waterproofing material to seal the stitch holes and the thread.
You can make some nice gear bags from that 16 inch wide strip. By the time you sew the seams the bags will end up being about 15 to 15.5 inches wide, and up to 9 feet long.
