: kayak it is going pretty well. I am up to the point of placing the
: hatches. Since I have not been in a kayak long enough to know what is a
: good placement of the hatches, I though I would ask. Is there a good rule
: of thumb on the placement of the hatches, or is it just personal
: preference? I would love to hear about any construction methods that
: worked well for making flush hatches. My plan was to make it out of layed
: up epoxy and fiberglass.

I usually place the front hatch close to the forward bulkhead so I can make it as large as possible.

For the rear hatch, I place it about 10 inches behind the cockpit so I have enough room to install bungees for holding my paddle with a paddle float for re-entries.
