I used 8 layers of 6 oz on Project X. The coaming was just less than an 1/8" thick. The coaming is stiff enough, but will "soften" slightly if left in the sun. Even then it is still usable. Carbon evidently does not have this problem. One thing to consider is leaving enough thickness so that you can sand out a smooth suface later.
