I've almost always built relatively wide kayaks specifically because they are used for so many different things...including fish...especially fishing. My current strip built project is one I designed using the KayakFoundry. 16' long, 28" wide...it will be interesting to see how it handles. Certainly looking good so far. There are not many plans...if any...available from designers for such a craft. I wonder if there is a market for strip built, or S&G, fishing kayak plans? There are a lot of short wide "kayaks" built by small commercial outfits that are wide and short...I guess you would call them utility boats. They are usually slow and heavy...but stable. 16' is actually kind of long if one simply wants to throw the boat in the back of a pickup and toodle on down to the river, or lake, and do a bit of fishing. 12' might be better. There are trade offs no matter which way you go. As for posting...I sometimes probably get off on tangents also.
