Tom,

Such a productive retirement surely deserves holidays, what? ;-}
It would indeed be interesting to know how your boats behave in chop.

The new baby looks a bit like a single version of the combi, but she combines elements of both the Aleutian (peaked deck and bottom, coaming higher than the ends, not too shallow hull) and the Greenlandic (pointed symmetrical stems, big overhangs), types, but her general shape is very pure and her structure should be strong due to the elliptical profile. I can't see if she has as much rocker as her predecessors, but she surely has some.
It is still easier to build (as a strong take-apart kayak) than a full greenlandic type, and requires few stringers, which keeps the weight down.
The number of stations is a good compromise between strength and quick assembly contradictory requirements.
As it is, such a design looks hardly improvable except (perhaps) for some details or tubing thickness for sea paddling in conditions, quick stringers to stem assembly (generally quite a problem on such boats), or a flat aft deck for rolling, etc.
End of rant!

: Just finished the frame for a new folder. Construction time so far is about
: 30 hrs. PVC skin will take another 15 - 20 hrs. The weather has been so warm
: in Colorado recently ( 75F today), that kayak building is taking a back seat
: to
: motorcycling. Plan on taking the "Symetrik" plus the
: "Combi's" to the West
: Coast next week.

: Oh, how I hate retirement !
