One more thing, well two. The glue line that you mention should show, if you laminated the shaft, on the face of the paddle along with the lines of the paddle lamination. Also, pay close attention to the orientation of the "power" side of the paddle, so that you end up with blades that face in the proper direction when the paddle is used.
