Hi Dan,
I did some paint, I did some directly on the wood in Ink, (the Bird) and some after the filler coats of epoxy, (the quote.) There is epoxy over both. I used acrylic paint but I would do it under the glass next time as I sanded a little of it off during some of the finishing and didn't notice untill I was putting varnish on. I think most paints are O.K. as long as it isn't oil base.
