I have built a ShootingStar (launched dec -01)and I think that the FireStar is about the same kayak but a little bigger.
In spite of me beeing a little to heavy for the SS I enjoy paddling her. She is not tippy, the secondary stability is very high, she is very manouverable and keep her track well.
I cant take out the big equipment for 14-day camping. Her deplacement wouldn´t allow that. But for a weekend there is no problem. And the FireStar is a bit bigger so you could stay out at least four days.
I build with 4,5mm nordic spruce strips and the distance 485mm between some stations felt a bit to long. I think that at least one more station would be very nice and give more stability to the stripping. What do you think, Rob Macks?
Maybe there will be paddling premier for this year this weekend!! The great iceeater has been working hard.
