I just bought a froe and learned to use it with books. I live in Nelson B.C. and we have very nice red cedar trees and at a local saw mill they give away perfect blocks for cutting shakes . I am in the process of splitting shakes for siding of a 1800 sq foot house.

Red cedar is is amazing tree that was spirtual for Natives here. It was called the live giving tree.

Rot resistant, Insects too, lasts longer than any other sidings but slate and ceramic.
