: (2) some attractive-looking stable barge that I can loan to non-kayakers who
: want to join me on the water, and that I could use for hands-off
: activities.
: I had been thinking of a 14' Great Auk but still in the thinking stage here.
: This boat would probably have a rudder, so my guest could be sure of
: control in the strongest cross-wind. A 16' Spring Run is another
: possibility, but it may be too narrow for my needs. Suggestions, anyone?
Hey John,
I think that having a non-kayaker guest boat is a great idea and for that I chose a One Ocean Cape Ann, but scaled it up considerably (1.33x) and shortened the boat by 0.66x. This is definately extreme bargeism. It's simply a short/wide boat. But the same method could easily be applied to any kayak design of your choice. If you just enlarge the forms and keep the same length, theoretically the forms will still be fair, just bigger. As Vaclav explained to me, it's when you have drastic changes in both directions, you may not know if it's going to come out fair until you get quite a ways into the project. It's still a risk worth taking and so far mine looks great (but it is going to be a SOF and fairness of it appears to be very forgiving). Just a thought.
