: I'm planning on using mariner-style forward deck bungies, simply running
: parallel bungies thru undersize holes. I'm trying to find a similar clean,
: low-tech approach for the paddle float deck rig. My current thought is to
: run two parallel bungies a blade width apart across the back deck. By
: placing the blade flat on the deck and sliding it fore and aft, I should
: be able to 'weave' it in the bungies such that each one goes under the
: shaft and crosses over the shoulder of the blade. Probably not as strong
: as the normal 'X' layout, but it might do. Two other ideas: Add hardwood
: sliders to the bungies, sorta like some S-O-F hardline rigs I've seen, to
: place the paddle under. Or just run blade-width bungies fore and aft on
: either side to slide the blade under, and not have anything running
: crossways on the rig. Just not sure which would have the appropriate
: oomph.

: Have to admit, I don't yet own a paddle float. On my tupperboat of similar
: dimension to the Osprey I'm building, I've always managed reentry
: canoe-style, so I don't know how much beef the deck rig needs. I remain
: hopeful that I'll eventually find my roll and make this an unnecessary
: discussion, but for now that's fantasy. All opinions appreciated.

Doing a paddle float renetry puts some stress on the bungies, and having them loose will end up just making it harder to do. Using the Closed X method would be my minimum that I would use.
I saw on someones tupperware boat where they had nylon webbing running fore and aft and webbing buckels to hold a paddle in place, as well as hold "luggage" securely. I thing that this is what I am going to do on my tern.
