: I have heard rumors that Bill Price was able to get the grid to wet out clear
: but havent confirmed how he did it. I plan on using 5oz on all my inside
: surfaces.

Ha! Well, there was certainly not any thing that I did intentially here. Perhaps I was just lucky, but let me try to lay out things the way they happened. The boat was a Redfish Silver (strip) for my wife. The woods are mostly Alaskan Yellow Cedar with Peruvian Walnut and Padouk accents. The hull was faired, sanded and then sealed with RAKA 127 standard resin mixed with the slow 606 hardener. This is the only mix I use anymore for any glassing operation, whether sealing or applying cloth. I just don't like being rushed :-) All work was done in a finished, heated basement at, what I would guess was, 72* F. Around 24 hrs after sealing, I applied the 5 oz glass with the same epoxy mix using a pour and squeegy method. After getting all the way around the boat, I began to notice the fiber patterns as you show in your photo. This was definetely a WTF moment for me, as I have never had that happen before. With growing concern, I began to work over certain areas with the squeegy to try and remove the pattern. This did work, but was too much to do on the whole hull. At this point, it was late, I was tired, and frankly, pissed, so I decided to give up. I was mentally making plans on whether to just live with it on the hull, or sand it off and purchase new glass. I got back to the boat after another 24 hrs. To my amazment, the pattern was gone. Evidentally, the epoxy had eventually "soaked" in enough. How or why that happened, I do not know. There were still a couple spots on the hull where one strand was visible, but they are not very noticable. Please note, this was a great relief to me, as this is my wifes "baby"! I really want this boat to be "nice" :-) Currently I am finishing up the strips on the deck and do plan on using the 5 oz there again. However, anyone out there thinking about using this glass has been fairly warned and, as Jay said, there are other types of light glass available. As for RAKA and their other types of glass (6 oz mainly), I have had nothing but superb service and prices from them.
