In Response To: Epoxy: Raka 6oz cloth (Rick Sylvia)

: Yesterday, a thread started about Raka's 5 oz cloth, which included a few
: small comments about their cloth in general. I may have been reading
: things into it, but I got the impression that folks generally like the
: epoxy, but buy their cloth someplace else.

: So, this is my first building project, and I bought the Raka epoxy and their
: 6 oz plain weave. But now I'm feeling a bit nervous and am wondering if
: the 6 oz will wet out easily and be a clear finish.

: Can I get a few comments from those who used the Raka 6 oz cloth? How was it
: to work with and so forth? Does it wet out clear?

: Thanks - I think after the 5 oz thread, I just need a little reassurance that
: the 6 oz will be fine, and if not, I'll re-buy from someplace else.

: Thanks

: Rick

I've used little 6oz, but mostly their Satin Weave which is a much tighter weave cloth and I had no trouble getting an excellent wet out. I think there is something about that 5oz cloth that perhaps Larry @ RAKA is not aware of. As was mentioned, it may either be cloth better suited to Polyester resin or if there IS a shelf life factor, it may just be he's gotten some Old cloth from his supplier. I don't think that Larry, or RAKA in general would try to pass off something they knew was inferior cloth.
Until recently I do not believe that anyone that had had difficulties ever contacted him, but thought they themselves had misused the cloth, so it was not known to him.
When 50 people buy the cloth for over a year and now you get 3 or 4 people that have a problem, it's very easy to see how he would react... ?? I don't know that Larry uses this cloth or would know personally of it's problems, so he may just be going by past experience. NO CALLS.... NO PROBLEMS.

I think it's a good idea for some folks that Have this cloth do some testing and send Larry the results.

As has been mentioned, you should be just fine with your materials.
