Chip,
I too would love to use carbon to sheath a wood kayak. Would you please remind me why we don't. Is it just because the carbon cloth doesn't take abrasions well or is it just the cost. From what I've noticed, it's not difficult to work with and really does look cool. I was surprised at the strength of my first attempt at carbon paddle blades. I don't think they'd break if I jumped on them.

Would you also remind me of the weight of the satin cloth that I bummed off you on my last visit. I would like to try this stuff out and will probably be ordering more of it in the future. Did you use this weave of cloth on the hull or deck of your boat? What was your impression? Clear?

I'm sneaking out of work early today, IT'S FRIDAY!!! Sorry if I don't post back, I'll be out paddling. Take it easy. Back on Monday. Same time/same place.

Tom,
Welcome to the forum. I'm not nearly as experienced as many on this board, but I'm hoping you'll find the information that you need. There's nothing like the feeling of building your own wooden boat. Have a go of it. No steps in the construction sequence are cast in stone and none of these tasks are all that difficult. Be carefull though, because you won't be able to stop building at just one. :D Have a great day. :)
