At the risk of being even longer winded I want to make a clarification. There is a difference between being difficult to wet out and having a 1/4in grid that doesn't wet out. If it were just a matter of tight weave the parts that didn't wet out would be random. What those of us who have used the 5oz have experienced is that there is a harness or grid that the glass is woven into that stays white. It is faint but somthing in the manufacturing process creates this grid that won't wet out.

Look at the pictures that I posted last week and you will see that it is not just a tight weave issue.
