: A question for those of you who have glassed in grapics on your kayak with an
: inkjet image on rice paper. Do you leave the inkjet side on the outside or
: inside. Do you have any problems with the printer image running. Do you
: leave the image over or under fiberglass?
: Any other tips I should be aware of?
: Jack
I use a special rice paper that will go through a copy machine. The copy machine
will apply a heat set ink that won't run. Contact me if you would like some of this paper.
I've not used color because I know sun will fade colors over time.
I apply the rice paper decals while I'm glassing the boat. As I near the area with the decal
I pull back the glass and apply a small amount of resin to the wood. Then apply a small amount
of resin the back of the paper to wet out that surface. Remove resin from both surfaces until
they are just damp. This will prevent air bubbles from being trapped under the rice paper.
Lay the decal in place and squeegee over the surface to remove air bubbles. Then lay the glass
back in place and wet-out the glass.
You must be using warm temperatures and thin resin to get the most transparent results.
All the best,
