I just bought a 1990 Volvo 240 wagon. I am wondering if any of you have this type of car and use it for hauling yaks? When I pick it up next week I will drive directly to the local rack outfitter and hope to find the appropriate towers and bars, used, at a good discount. It has the old style rain gutters and a nice long roofline. Should be easy to get boats on and off. I often carry two 17' singles. I have a yakima set up on my Jeep with hully rollers due to the height of the roof.
I would like to hear from any Volvo 240 wagon owners about what rack set up they use (yakima, Tule, others?) and any pointers on tie down locations for bow and stern lines. I am thinking about just using the grey minicell foam cradles since getting the boats up on the roof will not be a problem on this car.
Thanks for your input.
